Anthony woke up in the early morning hours startled, as he heard the whisper calling his name. He packed his bags and sat on the sofa waiting for the train. When the train pulled up, he waved goodbye and went on his way. The sunrise of Anthony began on August 19, 1961. He entered into eternal rest on the morning of September 8th at his home in Laurel, Maryland. Anthony was the youngest of five children born to Thomas and Ola Jones of Emporia, Va. He grew up in Greensville County and received his early education in the Greensville County Public School System. He was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. M.F. Boone and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church.
While in high school, he gained an interest in cooking and was employed at the Big T Restaurant in Emporia. Upon graduation from high school, he went to Maryland to live with his sister, Cheryl. He took courses in Computer Science at the University of Maryland, in College Park, MD and used his skills through employment at Goddard Space Flight Center, Socrates Technologies, Inc., Intermedia Communications/Digex, Inc., Geeks on Call and VARCOM Corp. He later gained an interest in mortgage and finance and began working at various companies to include Premier Mortgage Funding, Inc. and People’s Choice Home Loan. He changed his focus and went back to his early interest in cooking and obtained a Degree in Advanced Culinary Arts from the Stratford University in Falls Church, VA. Because family was first, he began traveled back and forth from Maryland to Virginia to help care for his mother when she became ill. After the death of his mother just 18 months ago, he continued his travels and cared for his father. He was a truly devoted and loving son and brother. He always carried a smile and would give his last to help anyone if he had it. He was previously married to Terri Hatcher.
He leaves to cherish his fondest memories, his father, Thomas Jones Sr. of Emporia,VA one brother, Thomas Jones Jr.,( Barbara) of Emporia, VA, three sisters, Annie Hill of Petersburg, VA, Cheryl Jones of Laurel, MD and Pamela Stewart, of Richmond, VA.; two nephews, Joshua Jones of Muncie, Inc. and Kenneth Hill of Petersburg, VA, one niece Catasha Stewart of Portsmouth, VA.; seven great nephews and nieces, Ansil, Asaish and Ayden (Catasha); Aliya, Brooklyn, Eva Rose, Jeremiah and Daniel, (Joshua); mother-in-law, Gloria Duncan (John) of Washington, DC, two uncles John Jones (Doretha) of Brooklyn, NY and William Jones of Bronx, NY, one aunt, Mattie Turner of Branchville, VA, two very special friends Edwin Berkley and Jamie Smith and a great host of relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 2:30P.M. at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, Reverend James A. Carey will be Officiating and Reverend Denise Avent will be the Eulogist. Interment will follow in The Briggs Family Cemetery.
