Cleophus Smith

Cleophus “Pokie” Smith departed this life on Thursday April 14, 2011 at the Medical College of Virginia of Richmond, Virginia.

Cleophus was born on November 12, 1956 in Emporia,Virginia to the late John and Alice Smith. Along with his parents Cleophus is preceded in death by four brothers: Arthur, Lathan, Donald and Melvin and one sister Annie Ruth Smith. He attended Greensville County Public Schools and later joined the United States Army. After his tour of duty he became a professional carpet and tile installer for over twenty five years until his health began to fail. He excepted Christ at an early age.

Cleophus leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Antwan Bullock (Teresa) and Eric Terry of Emporia, Virginia, Gary Wright and Kenya Brown of Baltimore, Maryland; a dear and devoted friend, Denise Greene; one devoted step-daughter, Cashemma Greene of Emporia, Virginia; nine sisters, Otelia Davis (Samuel), Janice Bullock (Richard) of Emporia, Virginia, Alease Turner (Charlie), Gloria Murray of Baltimore, Maryland, Gloria, Gene, Sarah, Louise and Tina of Pennsylvania; one god sister, Dozene Turner; five brothers, Jesse Smith (Iverna) of Roanoke Rapids, John Smith (Jackie) of Phoenix, Arizona, Ronnie and Carlton Smith (Tonya) of Baltimore, Maryland and Alphonso Smith of New York; eight grandchildren; a devoted sister-in-law Barbara Smith of Emporia, Virginia; one aunt, Elsie Boone( Edward) of Emporia, Virginia; five uncles, John Powell (Fannie), Emporia, Virginia, Albert William (Joanne) of Norfolk, Virginia, George Williams, Milton Walker of New York and Roy Walker of Petersburg, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; among them six dear devoted friends, Sandra Jean Adkins, Larry Johnson, Tony Batts, Leon Daniels, Curtis Sloan, George “Colly Wolly” Pitt.

Funeral service will be conducted don Saturday,April 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Elnora Jarrell Worship Center, Pastor Elnora Jarrell, Evangelist William Walker, Eulogy. Interment to follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
